Digital Media Intern –Communications

Digital Communications Intern
Classification:  Part time, Intern (unpaid)
Dept/Div:  Communications

Are you looking for real experience to help boost your resume and build your portfolio while gaining valuable journalistic experience and even having a fun time attending some of the best events in Saint Louis? The Digital Communications internship at the Missouri Botanical Garden is perfect for a self-starting student or recent graduate from a Communications, Journalism, or Marketing program.

The Digital Communications internship has two tracks, and candidates should specify which track they are interested in pursuing. Track one is Social Media and track two is Digital Storytelling.

The Social Media internship is further divided into marketing/event promotion and mission-based digital journalism. The marketing intern will assist with developing and designing online content for the Garden and its affiliated campuses to promote the institution as a local cultural attraction. Tasks will include creating online content before, during, and after special events, educational programs, and membership activities, as well as community outreach and engagement across multiple platforms. Digital journalism interns will focus on reporting and promoting the Garden's works in Science and Conservation, Horticulture, and Educational Outreach. Tasks will include creating online content for and about our programs in these areas and assisting staff in these areas in creating and/or maintaining individual digital content (i.e., blogs).

Digital Storytelling interns can work in video, audio, or a combination of these to produce short-form digital narratives about our work in St. Louis and around the world. Tasks include any combination of the following: videography, video and sound editing, storyboarding, video and audio production, and post-production.

Candidates should have solid writing skills and practical experience with online media applications and tools including all or most of the following: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, iMovie, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. Digital storytelling candidates should have video equipment (including, if possible, GoPro, HD video, drone, video editing software).
