Badge Workshops at Shaw Nature Reserve

Workshops are listed in chronological order.

Pricing:
  • Pricing varies, please view the workshops below for the associated fee.
    • Chaperone ratio: 1 chaperone is required per each scout and is included in the fee listed.
    • Programs often include the badge or award associated with that program, if applicable.
    Scheduling and Registration:
    • Register online by using the link provided with each individual workshop description.
    • Scouts MUST pre-register.
    • New badge workshops are scheduled on an ongoing basis, so check back for new offerings often!
    • Siblings are not permitted, as these programs are designed for one on one interactions in order to provide the best possible experience for your scouts. Please make arrangements for them to enjoy the Garden or Reserve while your program is taking place, and meet up with them at the conclusion of the program.
    • Program fees are due immediately upon receiving your tentative reservation via email from the Scout Instructor. Payment will not be accepted the day of the program.
    • We reserve the right to cancel scheduled programs due to non-payment of fees.

    Give the gift of green! Learn why it’s important to reuse and how to create unique gifts from used materials. Scouts will spend most of the program making creative crafts to take home and give to loved ones! Registration ends Wednesday, December 6 at 5 p.m.

    • Brownie Household Elf: 3–5
    • Junior Jeweler: 3 and 5
    • Cadette Bookbinding: 3–5

    Collecting the syrup from the trees Maple Syrup
    For scouts ages 10 and up
    Saturday, February 10, 2018, 10 a.m.–noon OR
    1–3 p.m.
    At Shaw Nature Reserve

    Come find out how real maple syrup gets from the tree to your table! Scouts will also learn about the water cycle, photosynthesis and how to identify trees during the winter months. Scouts will also receive a Shaw Nature Reserve patch. Registration ends Wednesday, January 31 at 5 p.m.

    Daffodils Daffodil Hike
    For all scouts
    Saturday, March 31, 2018, 10 a.m.–noon
    At Shaw Nature Reserve

    Fee per scout: $8/public; $6.50/member; price includes one required chaperone

    Learn how navigate trails, choose the correct hiking gear and what types of foods are suitable for hiking trips. We'll make a snack and take a closer look at the thousands of daffodils that are blooming around Shaw Nature Reserve this time of year. We'll also visit the Nature Explore Classroom, where Scouts can climb, make and play! Scouts will also receive a Shaw Nature Reserve patch. Registration ends March 28 at 5 p.m. Register


    GPS unit and cache Geocacher
    For scouts ages 10 and up
    Saturday, April 21, 2018, 9–11:30 a.m. OR
    12:30–3 p.m.
    At Shaw Nature Reserve
    Fee per scout: $12/public; $10/member; price includes one required chaperone

    Held at the Shaw Nature Reserve, scouts will become modern-day treasure seekers as they explore the trails for caches! Scouts will learn how to use a GPS unit, make a trade item, and explore the Reserve for hidden caches. For Scouts ages 10 and up. Scouts will also receive a Shaw Nature Reserve patch. Registration closes April 11 at 5 p.m.
