Pitzman Summer Opportunities for Camp Groups
Programs at the Garden

Instructor demonstrates the sense of smellWe will explore the Garden, play games, and plant a plant to take home.

Programs at the Garden are available 9:30–11 a.m. Thursdays in June and Tuesdays through Fridays in July (no programs available July 4). Programs are geared for kids ages 6–12. Minimum group size is 20; Maximum group size is 60.

Fee:*
$5 per child.
Required chaperones are free (1 chaperone per every 5 children is required).
Extra chaperones will be required to pay regular admission to the Garden.

* Fee includes a 90 minute age-appropriate program and a take-home planting activity. Children’s Garden admission requires additional fees.

Offerings:

TREEmendous
Join us in the search for the biggest trees in the Garden! We’ll play some “treemendous” games and plant a tree to take home.

Explore China
Explore the Chinese Garden and Lantern Festival display with us! We’ll learn about the plants and symbolism, and will make seed packets to start your own mini Chinese vegetable garden.

Rainforest
Bamboo, vanilla, and chocolate, oh my! Let’s explore the rainforest by visiting the Climatron® to see what else comes from the rainforest. We’ll plant a house plant from the tropics to take home.

Incredible Insects
Why are there so many insects in the garden and why are they here? Join us as we investigate the insects that visit the Garden. We’ll play some buggy games and plant a pollinator-friendly plant to take home.

Outreach Programs (St. Louis City and County only)

Student explores a cycadIf you can’t make it to the Garden—we can come to you!

Outreach programs are available 1–2:30 p.m. Thursdays in June and Tuesdays through Fridays in July (no programs available July 4). Programs are geared for kids ages 6–12. Minimum group size is 20; Maximum group size is 40.

Fee:*
$75 per program (up to 40 students) plus $2 per child.

* Fee includes a 90 minute age-appropriate program and a take-home planting activity.

Sensory Exploration
How do our senses help us? Have you used your senses today? Let’s explore using our senses and learn to be more aware of things around us. Games and activities will help us learn about our senses as well as the plant that you get to take home.

Rainforest
Bamboo, vanilla, and chocolate, oh my! Let’s explore the rainforest by learning about the plants and animals that live there. We’ll also plant a house plant from the tropics to take home.

Scholarships Available

The Missouri Botanical Garden’s Education Department offers need-based scholarships so that every student has the opportunity to experience, explore, discover and learn at the Garden, the Shaw Nature Reserve and the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House. Both schools/organizations and individual students may apply.
