Annual Fall Symposium

Symposium

The Missouri Botanical Garden will host its 64th Annual Fall Symposium on October 13-14, 2017, entitled “Next Generation Biology: from Species to Ecosystems.” This year’s Symposium brings together a distinguished group of speakers who each have found creative ways to analyze the newly emerging masses of “big data” to address particularly complex problems. Their diverse studies are leading to transformative new insights in our understanding of plant biology and the living world. Our speakers will highlight current approaches that use big data, be they molecular, phenotypic, demographic, geographic, or climatological, to elucidate how genomes are structured, evolve, and direct the development of plant form and function; how plants interact with the vast and scarcely known microbiome that permeates the living world; and how biological communities assemble, interact, and change through time, especially now in response to accelerating climate change. The program promises to be of interest to students of phylogeny and evolution, morphology, development, community ecology, and phytogeography. Learn more
