Community Clean Up Event at Barrett Brothers Park
Coordinating Organizations: Missouri Botanical Garden, Green City Coalition, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the City of St. Louis
Location: Barrett Brothers Park in Wells Goodfellow

A day of clean up, beautification, and community in Barrett Brothers Park. The event will kick off under the Barrett Brothers Pavilion, located near the entrance to the park at 9 a.m. Quality parks and public spaces are essential to the health and resilience of our communities, and National Public Lands Day is the perfect day to spend time enhancing and maintaining these spaces. Parks provide communities with shared space to engage in healthy physical activity, commune with family, friends and neighbors, and connect with nature. Free snacks and refreshments!

The Great MonArch Migration Event
Coordinating Organization: City of St. Louis 
Location: Luther Ely Smith Square in St. Louis, Missouri

From 9 a.m. to noon, the City of St. Louis and The National Park Service will co-host The Great MonArch Migration Event at the Gateway Arch. Partner organizations—such as the Butterfly House and Saint Louis Zoo—will offer fun activities, hold demonstrations, conduct talks and provide opportunities to participate in citizen science and the arts at or near Luther Ely Smith Square. There will also be a Riverside Clean Up event on the Arch grounds. Come celebrate the fascinating monarch butterfly at a time when they are most likely to migrate past the Gateway Arch.

Great Mississippi River Clean Up
Coordinating Organization: National Park Service
Location: Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri 

We will be picking up litter from the riverfront, just below the Grand Staircase beneath the Gateway Arch. Meet at the bottom of the Grand Staircase at 9 a.m. for donuts, t-shirts, and a brief meeting before grabbing bags and gloves and venturing along the levee to pick up litter that was stranded by receding river water. We will be done by noon. You can park along the levee or in any of the surrounding garages.

Great Rivers National Public Lands Day
Coordinating Organization: Greenway Network
Location: Riverlands Bird Sanctuary and Confluence State Park in West Alton, Missouri

Great Rivers National Public Lands Day, part of a nationwide public service day will be held starting at 8:30 a.m. at Riverlands Bird Sanctuary, 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, Missouri. After meeting at Riverlands, volunteers may chose several work site options on public lands at the confluence of two of our county’s great rivers, the Mississippi and Missouri. The USACE Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Jones Confluence State Park, and the West Alton trail will be the sites of this effort to enhance our public lands. The service day will include trash cleanups, plantings, and trail work. All necessary equipment for the cleanup will be supplied. A t-shirt or water bottle and a free National Parks pass will be given to all volunteers. There will be a free lunch for volunteers, followed by opportunities to hike on your public lands at the Confluence.

Race to the Dome
Coordinating Organization: Missouri River Relief
Location: Missouri River in Jefferson City, Missouri


Saturday, September 30, 2017 will mark the eighth annual Race to the Dome! Two race courses are available to paddlers: Hartsburg to Jefferson City (15.8 miles) and Providence to Jefferson City (27.6 miles). Proceeds from the race support Missouri River Relief's efforts to connect people to the Missouri River through hands-on river clean-ups, education and recreation. REGISTRATION CLOSES THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 AT MIDNIGHT!

Day of Service at Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge
Coordinating Organization: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Location: Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge in Brussels, Illinois


Help the visitor services department with assembling picnic tables, light gardening, picking up trash, and other tasks that make the refuge beautiful and accessible to the public. Volunteers will receive a special gift for their help. Gloves, tools and drinks will be provided, but volunteers must bring their own lunch.

Urban Ag: Cover Crops 
Coordinating Organization: Gateway Greening
Location: Gateway Greening Urban Farm, 2200 Pine Ave., St. Louis, Missouri 63103 

Cover crops are highly underutilized in the urban environment. Learn how to build organic matter, suppress weeds and add nutrients to your soil with cover crops and green manures on the Gateway Greening Urban Farm. Gateway Greening Urban Farm is a 2.5-acre farm on a MoDOT right-of-way. This session begins at 10 a.m.
