Kenzie Conely- Summer 2014 Sustainability Education

Where Am I Now?

"I actually interned for EarthWays Center twice- They just couldn't get rid of me. When I graduated in May 2016, I did not have a job yet and was looking for a way to be useful and returned to EarthWays Center to help with the Rainscaping Small Grant Application Process. Little did I know that my future job would largely involve processing applications. I started as a project coordinator on the Ameren Missouri BizSavers program and now work as the Business Development Analyst for the program. The program offers cash incentives to offset the initial cost of energy efficient upgrades and I do a lot of behind the scenes work managing our contractor network, monitoring program health, and helping out with program design."

What Did I Learn From My Internship?

"I am incredibly grateful for my time with EarthWays Center. As the sustainability education intern, I gained experience that helped me secure my future position as a peer education coordinator in Elon University's Office of Sustainability. It also introduced me to a network of people that not only were incredibly knowledgeable, but also interested in my success. I am always grateful for how invested the EarthWays Center team was and is in my future and I honestly don't think I would be where I am without them. My favorite thing that I did as an EarthWays Center intern was Camp EarthWays. We had a great group of kids and it gave me the chance to try out sustainability education in a more formal, non-peer setting. Plus it was super fun and I got to make a scrap book."

Where Am I Now?

"I just completed a contract with Tesla and finished my master program in Energy Management at the Technische Universität in Berlin, Germany."

What Did I Learn From My Internship

"Reduce, reuse, and recycle!

The EarthWays Center taught me the value of efficiency and sustainable living. The skills and knowledge gained from my experience as an intern at the Missouri Botanical Garden enabled me to successfully implement a recycling program at my university, office and co-working space downtown."

Big thanks to Kenzie and Julie for sharing these updates! We wish them the best in all of their future endeavors. To learn about available internships at EarthWays Center and the Missouri Botanical Garden in general click here
