Description: The striking color on the upper or dorsal surface of this butterfly contrasts sharply with the well camouflaged underside. The underside or ventral surface is dull enough that it can sit in full view of a predator and, as long as it does not move, it will remain undetected. The bright green coloration on the dorsal surface is used as an advertisement for individuals of the same species. The male butterflies will find a mate by looking for this green pattern and the females will use it to assure that they are mating with the correct species. These butterflies like to bask in the sun and drink nectar during the day, offering great opportunities for photos. We receive this butterfly throughout the year from both Malaysia and the Philippine Islands.
