Our programs are designed to immerse students in inquiry, exploration, and problem solving while experiencing the Missouri landscape. Just 45 minutes from St. Louis, but a world away for young minds…

Shaw Nature Reserve classes vary in duration from 1 to 2 hours, but all include hands-on learning and active discovery of nature and the great outdoors. We encourage you to schedule two classes with a lunch in between to make the most out of your Shaw Nature Reserve experience.

Required Chaperones:
Required chaperones attend free of charge.

  • Grades PreK–3: 1 adult per 8 students
  • Grades 4 & up: 1 adult per 10 students

Classes cost $2 per student. Schedule a day program

Teacher’s Special (Grades PreK–6)

Offered March & June

Shaw Nature Reserve offers you a unique opportunity to custom design a field trip to support your students' classroom learning. Work with our education staff to design a 1 to 2 hour program utilizing the Reserve's diverse ecosystems to bring your lesson to life. One month advanced notice is needed.

Adlyne Freund Center at DBOCIn addition to the classes described above, we also offer day classes through our Dana Brown Overnight Center (DBOC). You can register for these classes in conjunction with an overnight, but an overnight stay is not required. Classes are geared for grades 4 through 12 and may be customized to meet your objectives.

Endangered Wolf Center, Shaw Nature Reserve and World Bird Sanctuary have partnered to create an innovative approach to science field trips! The goal of the STEM STL Trifecta program is to provide schools with cohesive curriculum-based field trips that are in line with Missouri state DESE standards. You will get grade specific, pre-planned field trips to serve as an exciting supplement to the concepts your teachers are teaching in the classroom.

Students in WoodsTake your young learners on an exciting adventure. Pick up a key and backpack at the Visitor Center containing everything you’ll need as you unlock the seven activity boxes along your hike. Each activity box contains two activities which are designed to help children learn about the plants, animals and habitats of Missouri. The boxes are now located inside the Nature Explore Classroom.
