Celebrate National Trails day with free admission to Shaw Nature Reserve! Stop in the Visitors Center to check in, get a map, and directions for whichever distance hike you want to do. In honor of National Trails Day we ask you pick up any litter you see on the trails and place it in the trash or recycling cans near the parking lots. We only offer this once a year so come on out and enjoy.

The first Saturday in June is National Prairie Day so make sure to hike on one of our Prairie Trails'. You'll see grasses, forbs, butterflies, birds, and more.

Also happening that is a special event: Tales and Trails Summer Reading Challenge Kick-off!

Join us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to kick-off the Missouri Botanical Garden's Tales and Trails Summer Reading Challenge, a unique summer reading program that pairs books with outdoor adventures. Enjoy hourly story time, nature art, and pick-up your summer log in the Nature Explorer Classroom and Sense of Wonder Woodland. Also, look for book nooks around the Nature Reserve for unique reading experiences.

To complete the Tales & Trails Summer Reading Challenge, read six books in the outdoors and record your experience on your reading log. Then visit the Missouri Botanical Garden, Shaw Nature Reserve, or the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House to redeem your reading log for a prize pack.
