If you are looking for plants for a shade garden, or especially a woodland garden, you simply must include this plant. The foliage is just lovely. It provides cover in the lower three feet of the woodland. The white efflorescences brighten the shade in which the plant thrives, and the fruit is unique in the plant world. Oh, and deer will NOT touch this plant. And the berries will feed the birds. The berries, though, are highly toxic to humans as well as deer. We shouldn't eat them either.

Very delightful small woodland plants with interesting foliage and small white berries in mid to late summer. The 'white doll's eyes' are a show stopper. A must have for woodland gardens. There is a similar form, Actea rubra, with red berries and var alba has similar 'white dolls eyes'.
