Holiday Cheer from the Kemper Center

Holiday Cheer from the Kemper Center

‘Nature’s Helpers’ was the 2016 gourdament theme. Staff and volunteers used their artistic talents to create the beautiful gourdaments. This has been a tradition at Kemper Center for 10 years and everyone looks forward to this time of year. Our video slideshow gave a peek at some gourdaments from previous years. If you go to ‘Visual Guides’ on our website, you can see more gourdaments from over the years. The 2016 Gourdaments have just been added!

The holiday decorations in the Kemper Center were made by me and my volunteers (dried flower bouquets, pinecone stars, okra icicles, art-deco pinecones, pinecone wreaths, origami snowflakes and trees made from old gardening books). The materials used for the decorations were natural, re-purposed and eco-friendly. Volunteers donated most of the materials from their yards, what was around their house or after holiday sales. The dried flower bouquets were all cut from the Kemper Center gardens (Experimental garden, Cutting garden, and Vegetable garden). I also dried oranges, grapefruit and Osage oranges to add a different texture to the arrangements.

Many of the decoration are now on sale at the Kemper Center. So, if you saw something you loved, it may be on sale now! If you would like the instructions to make the decorations used at the Kemper Center, please ask someone at the Reception Desk. We would be glad to share the plans so you too can create some of these creative decoration for next year.

A special THANK YOU to my volunteers:

Bonnie, Emery, Ruth, Betty, Alison, Mary, Sophie, Nancy and Leigh
