( CHESTERFIELD) Escape the cold weather and surround yourself with one of nature’s “jewels” during the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House’s Winter Jewels celebration. Enjoy the warm temperatures inside the conservatory as you marvel at the regal Monarch butterflies. For the first time in the Butterfly House’s 15-year history, Monarchs from El Bosque Nuevo, a butterfly conservation organization in Costa Rica, will populate the conservatory. Best known for their migration to the South, Monarchs can be found in South America and even stray into Australia, Hawaii and parts of Southeast Asia. The conservatory will also feature white flowers and foliage for a winter-like scene in tropical temperatures. The Butterfly House will also spotlight other “jewels” including insects. Games and activities will allow children to learn more about the diversity of jewel-toned insects. Live animal encounters will also be part of the weekend programming. Winter Jewels runs November 29 through January 5 and is included with regular admission. The Butterfly House is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed on Mondays and on December 24, 25 and January 1. Regular admission is $6 adults, $5 for seniors (ages 65+) and $4 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and younger are free.
