Did you know? EarthWays staff has classes about recycling, composting, waste reduction, and stormwater available for schools across the St. Louis area. These class offerings are a great way to introduce your students to sustainability topics.
Schools, educators, and students interested in how to keep pollution out of stormwater can borrow an EnviroScape® model. The EnviroScape® is a visual, hands-on tool that demonstrates how water pollution results from everyday activities. Through this demonstration, students will learn how everyone in their community can reduce non-point source pollution and have healthier watersheds. EarthWays Center can also provide supplies for a storm drain marking project, an engaging service learning opportunity for students the provides a visible reminder to keep trash out of storm drains. Contact us at MSDCleanwater@mobot.org to make your reservation.
Schools focusing on recycling or compost will be interested in a waste reduction project. Leadership in Environmental Action Projects (LEAP) Student Projects help students build a better understanding of waste, where it comes from, and where it goes. LEAP also supports classes and green teams to develop their own community-wide initiatives by teaching a holistic problem-solving approach to identifying and minimizing waste issues in the school. The projects are student driven and are developed based on data collected by students. EarthWays Center staff will lead lessons about waste in the classroom and help students carry out an action project in their school. Contact Maggie at mmccoy@mobot.org if you class in interested in a project for this school year.
