Mentors Help Schools Go Green
EarthWays Center staffers serve as program mentors for schools participating in the U.S. Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter’s 2016-17 Green Schools Quest. This is a challenge based opportunity for schools to implement low to no-cost sustainable solutions at their school. Children of all ages jump into the “greening” projects with our staff.

Elementary school students at Christ Community Lutheran School worked with Kat Golden, SustainabiSchool Mentorslity Education Manager, to kick-off their school’s “green team”, implement waste-free lunch programs and more!  Sunrise Elementary recently conducted a waste audit and is currently brainstorming solutions to reduce food waste in the cafeteria with the help of Simon Warren, Education and Volunteer Coordinator. For the second year students at Rogers Middle School, in Affton, are working with Joyce Gorrell, Sustainability Projects Coordinator, to expand the school's pollinator garden and increase biodiversity in their own "backyard".

This year, 47 schools within the Chapter’s territory (Missouri and Southern Illinois) are participating in the Green Schools Quest. Winners of this year’s Quest will be announced at the USGBC-MGC Green Schools Event on April 11, 2017. Contact the USGBC-MGC for more information about participating in the program.
