April is Earth Month and Full of Educational Opportunities!

April at EarthWays is much like this month for most environmentally oriented organizations – Earth Day turned into Earth Week which turned in to Earth Month! It’s a busy time, but the last two weeks in particular were the busiest.  Here are some of the places you might have found the EWC staff, and where you might have been as well:

St. Louis Earth Day Festival – Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22 in Forest Park. We had  a  great time connecting to people at our booth, and loved having the chance to see all the other great environmentally centered groups there. We love this event and look forward to it every year!  https://stlouisearthday.org/festival/

Chinese Culture Days at the Garden – Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22 at Missouri Botanical Garden – we staffed the Waste Stations along with wonderful Zero Waste Ambassador volunteers. We helped educate visitors regarding the disposal of their waste from the food vendors – and at the Garden we require our event vendors to use compostable disposables. With our industrial scale food waste composting program and recycling efforts nearly 90% of all event waste is diverted so we produce very little trash! We still have openings for future events, come help us work these fun stations! http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/about/additional-information/volunteer.aspx

St. Louis Climate Summit – Sunday April 22 – Tuesday April 24, hosted by Saint Louis University. Many of us attended this summit, check it out at stlclimatesummit.org. On Monday night the keynotes were Bill Nye the Science Guy and Carl Pope, former Executive Director of the Sierra Club and co-author of Climate of Hope. .

2018 World Ecology Medal presented to E.O. Wilson – Friday April 20, hosted by Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center – the event sold out but they will be streamed the award presentation and talk on their page via Facebook Live, so if you didn't make it you can still tune in! http://icte.umsl.edu/News/wec.html

St. Louis City Nature Challenge – Friday April 27 through Monday April 30 – what a fun way to simply take pictures of plants and animals and upload them to the free app iNaturalist to help the region showcase how many different species we can record on these four days! www.tinyurl.com/stlNatureChallenge18
