Healthy Homes and Energy Efficiency Training

The EarthWays Center is proud to offer the following training basics in the fields of Healthy Homes and Energy Efficiency. The links in the descriptions will take you to the details on the respective certification websites and Richard Reilly, our Energy Programs Manager, is happy to discuss options with you as needed. These classes have been held in person but are likely to be done via a web based interface for the near future.

bspThe Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Science Principles Certificate provides an introductory knowledge base into the field of energy efficiency at home. This course provides a refresher, as well as CEUs, for certified BPI folks and a great starting point for those just entering the field or working in the field in a supportive capacity.

Our curriculum provides a detailed walk-through of the handbook as well as detailed descriptions of building science processes and, most importantly, a chance to discuss any questions with the instructor and fellow classmates.

The entire course requires an eight-hour commitment for class time, review and challenging the 100-question exam.

HES – Home Energy Score Assessor

With this training you can become a Home Energy Score Assessor. The BPI BSP Certificate is the easiest threshold to qualify for HES Assessor training, but there are others you might already have as well. This course offers CEUs for many of your existing certifications as well.

A Home Energy Score Assessment will give you and your clients insights into how a particular home is performing in relation to others as well as generating an action plan to make energy efficiency improvements in order to raise the score, lower the bills and increase comfort.

The training involves a guided walk through of the computer simulation house models required as part of the certification process as well as tips and techniques for appropriate data collection. It also includes a mentored first assessment which will qualify you for independently providing HES Assessments to your customers.

Please contact Richard Reilly at rreilly@mobot.org with questions about costs, scheduling and putting together 12 hours of class and independent training time that includes you.
