October Owls and Orchids

This autumn, the conservatory will be full of eyes—eyespots that is. Visit us during the month of October for the annual Owls and Orchids event, when the Butterfly House expands its collection of Owl Butterflies from 150 to almost 2,000 creatures – more than ten times the normal number! In addition, the conservatory will be adorned with over 100 colorful, blooming orchids.

Snow in the Tropics

They may resemble snowflakes, drifting down from the winter sky of the conservatory, but in the wild these Paper Kite butterflies emerge from their beautiful yellow-gold chrysalises far from the chilly Midwest, in Southeast Asia. Visit us in December for our annual Snow in the Tropics event, when the Butterfly House multiplies its collection of Paper Kites from 200 to over 1000—a veritable blizzard of these beautiful creatures.

March brings a very special kind of madness to the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House—our annual March Morpho Mania® event! Visit us during the month of March, when the Butterfly House floods the tropical conservatory with thousands of breathtaking Blue Morpho butterflies—a perennial favorite. What better way to celebrate spring?
