Monterey Nutgrass Killer
Hi Yield® Nutsedge Control
Chemical Action and Usages: These products (and formerly Manage) containing the active ingredient halosulfuron-methyl, are selective, post emergence herbicides for the control of sedges such as purple and yellow nutsedge (often referred to as water grass or nut grass) in established lawns, ornamental turf grass and landscaped areas and on other non-crop sites including golf courses, sports fields, public recreation areas and school grounds. All are available as a WDG (water dispersible granule) in a .09 gram packet that makes 1-2 gallons of spray that should cover a 1,000 sq. ft. area. They may also be available in a 1.3 oz. commercial size bottle with a scoop to measure out .09 grams for each 1-2 gallons of finished product you wish to make. Best control is obtained when treating the sedges when they are growing actively and when they are in the middle of your mowing cycle (approximately 2-3 days after mowing and 2-3 days before mowing again). The immediate effect is that the nutsedge will cease growing and the chemical will be translocated to the roots of the plant with complete death in about two weeks. Best results are also obtained when adding a surfactant (spreader sticker) to the spray mixture.
Cautions/Instructions: Read the label carefully and apply the product according to the directions on the label. Avoid application of this product when turf grass or nut sedge is under stress since turf injury and poor nut sedge control may result. Do not apply when rainfall or irrigation is expected within four hours.
Toxicity: Relatively low toxicity to humans and domestic animals orally or by inhalation, but may cause eye irritation.
Monterey Nutgrass ‘Nihalator
Chemical Action and Usages: Monterey Nutgrass ‘Nihilator (active ingredient sodium salt of bentazon) is a selective, post emergence herbicide intended for use in established turf and listed ornamentals. It will control certain broad leafed weeds, sedges including yellow nutsedge and will suppress others including purple nutsedge. Its primary mode of action is by contact; therefore all parts of the targeted weed should be thoroughly covered with the spray. It is available as a soluble liquid concentrate in ½ and 1 pint containers. Best results are obtained when adding a surfactant (spreader sticker) to the spray mixture. This product is labeled for both warm season and cool season grasses. Best yellow nutsedge control is obtained when it is growing actively and when the product is applied in the middle of the mowing cycle (approximately 2-3 days after mowing and 2-3 days before mowing again).
Cautions/Instructions: Read the label carefully and apply the product according to the directions on the label. Do not spray during windy conditions because spray drift may cause damage to desired ornamentals.
Toxicity: In humans, harmful if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Causes moderate eye irritation. Slightly toxic to birds and aquatic invertebrates. Non toxic to bees.
Image® Kills Nutsedge
Chemical Action and Usages: Image Kills Nutsedge (active ingredient ammonium salt of imazaquin) is a selective, post emergence herbicide intended for use in established warm season turf (see cautions below) and in established landscape plantings around listed tolerant ornamentals. It will control certain broad leafed weeds, grasses, and sedges including yellow and purple nutsedge. It is available as a concentrate and in a RTU formulation. Irrigation or rainfall of ½ inch is suggested within 1-7 days after application to wash the chemical into the root zone where the greatest weed control activity occurs. This product should be applied to the targeted weed at least 2 days before mowing and waiting for a minimum of 2 days before mowing again.
Cautions/Instructions: Read the label carefully and apply the product according to the directions on the label. Be especially aware that this product is labeled for use on certain warm season grasses only. Use of this product on cool season grasses such as fescue may damage or kill the desired turf grass.
Toxicity: In humans, harmful if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Low toxicity to birds, fish, and animals and non toxic to honeybees when used as directed.
