In this collection, you will find many of the plants that are housed in our Conservatory and are visited frequently by our butterflies.  In addition, many of the plants in our outdoor  butterfly gardens are also listed.

The first item for each plant is its Latin name and this link will take you to additional information about the species.

Rondeletia leucophylla

Scientific Name: Rondeletia leucophylla
Common Name: Panama Rose or Bush Pentas
Native Location: Mexico
Description: The Panama Rose is a large shrub or small tree that can be seen blooming in the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House Conservatory from December through March. Like many members of the Madder family, it has fragrant flower clusters full of nectar that attract butterflies. The flower clusters are pink in color and are most fragrant in the morning and evening hours. This is an important plant for our butterflies during the winter months when flower nectar is lower than other seasons in the Conservatory.
