Native Location: United States
Description: A Missouri native and member of the carrot family, heart-shaped meadow parsnip is a host plant for the Black Swallowtail. The flat-topped clusters of yellow flowers appear in May and last for several weeks. The flowers are a good nectar source for butterflies and are followed by attractive seed heads. Plants grow 1-3 feet tall. Zizias are tough plants which can be grown in full sun to partial shade. They perform best in medium moist soils.
