1.) Plants from the Andes. The Andes mountains are one of the most diverse regions of the world. They are still largely unexplored and new species continue to be discovered. Carmen Ulloa has conducted fieldwork for over two decades in the páramos (vegetation above tree line) and Andean forests of Ecuador. Documenting the Plants Collected by Early Explorers of Western North America and Northern Mexico in the MBG Herbarium. James Solomon is Curator of the Herbarium and oversees a staff of 30 full-time project managers, herbarium assistants, plant mounters, specimen filers, specimen digitizers, in addition to working on Cactaceae and Vitaceae.
