Food waste makes up nearly 25% of the waste we send to landfills. What are options, from field to fridge, to change this situation? Come be part of the solution at the EarthWays Innovation Challenge: Food Waste!

Families, students, scouts, and other groups from around the St. Louis community will join EarthWays Center in a design challenge where innovation, creativity and imagination are the key to solving real-world environmental problems. Through this challenge, our community will build their understanding of food waste issues, environmental connections, and problem-solving and technology skills as they work to design and develop solutions. Discover where and why food waste happens, and what we can do about it.

Students will have one morning to come up with a unique solution to the problem of food waste, devise a prototype and a pitch, and present their solution to a panel of expert judges from the waste, sustainability, and startup industries. There will be prizes for winners, as well as the opportunity to interact with other like-minded innovators!

Students can register as teams of 3 to 4. Please register all the students on a team together in the same order. Students that register as individuals will be placed in teams based on age.

Registration for this event is open now and closes on July 10.

Who Should Join the Challenge?

Student groups, scout groups, or friends—no matter what your group is, you are welcome to join EarthWays for this year’s Innovation Challenge. All content will be aimed at youth and students ages 10–18.

Where is the Challenge?

The Challenge will take place outdoors at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
