Collecting for the Plastic Pot Recycling program The Missouri Botanical Garden invests significant resources in developing and sharing new discoveries in plant science and using that knowledge to help manage those ecosystems here and around the world. The Garden is equally committed to inspiring and educating all members of our local region about the benefits of being good environmental stewards and establishing sustainable communities through conservation, ecological restoration and responsible use of natural resources.

From our very successful plastic pot recycling campaign to our use of renewable energy to our improved storm water management, we strive to make the most sustainable choices throughout all our facilities and at all our sites.

Employee Engagement

The Garden's Green Team Steering CommitteeThe Garden’s Green Team includes representatives from all Garden buildings and from our off-site locations: the Shaw Nature Reserve, the Butterfly House and the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center. Meeting monthly, the Green Team works collectively to implement sustainable office operations throughout the Garden. The team also hosts periodic lunch-and-learn and field trip opportunities, cultivating a broad sustainability knowledge base that Garden employees can apply in all working areas.

In 2010, the Green team launched the Green Today Greener Tomorrow campaign which celebrates successes in sustainable operations while at the same time promotes ways to improve. From single stream recycling, food waste composting and energy reduction strategies, the Green Team strives to engage employees and volunteers in continually advancing the Garden's green practices.

Join the Conservation Club

Garden members who give an additional $25 to join the Conservation Club will receive invitations to lectures and hands-on events that reveal the Garden’s efforts in protecting plants, preserving ecosystems, and introducing sustainable practices for the home and garden. Club members also will receive a special newsletter from the president. Members at the President's Circle and above receive complimentary Conservation Club memberships.
