Shaw Nature Reserve will be open during the Total Solar Eclipse of August 21st, 2017, for public viewing, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Due to parking availability; a limited number of vehicles will be admitted into the Nature Reserve.

Admission
The parking fee will be $20.00 per vehicle*. Once available parking is full, the Nature Reserve will be closed to further vehicle traffic. Walk-in visitors will be charged at our normal, daily rate of $5.00 per adult, $3.00 per student/senior and free to members.

Visitors will receive a pair of solar viewing glasses along with a safety guide and map of viewing areas, free of charge, while supplies last.

Shaw Nature Reserve is favorably positioned for an especially good viewing window. The Partial Eclipse will begin at 11:48 a.m. Totality will begin at 1:16 p.m. and end at 1:18 p.m., for a duration of 2 minutes and 26 seconds. The final, partial eclipse will end at 2:43 p.m.

The Loop Road, within Shaw Nature Reserve will be closed to through traffic, all day. Designated viewing areas will be provided very near to parking areas. Other viewing areas will be available to those wishing to walk further into the Nature Reserve. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, picnic lunch (no waste, please) and plenty of drinking water. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted at Shaw Nature Reserve. PLEASE NOTE: our viewing areas are mowed fields and brush that are difficult to walk in. Closed-toe walking shoes should be worn (no flip flops). 

Visitors planning on viewing the 2017 Solar Eclipse at Shaw Nature Reserve should be advised that local officials are expecting extremely heavy traffic in the area, all day. Please expect travel delays.
