Dr. Shahina Ghazanfar will present the 2023 John Dwyer Lecture in Biology on her book Plants of the Quran: History and Culture on Friday, November 10 at 4 p.m. in the Missouri Botanical Garden's Bayer Event Center (located at the Jack C. Taylor Visitor Center). 
 
The lecture, sponsored by the Missouri Botanical Garden and Saint Louis University’s Department of Biology, is free and open to the public. The annual John Dwyer Lecture in Biology honors the memory of Dr. John Dwyer, a professor of biology at Saint Louis University and a research associate of the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Shahina A. Ghazanfar is an expert on the flora and vegetation, conservation, and plants of economic importance of the Middle East and has published extensively on these subjects.

She is a senior botanist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and is a co-editor of Flora of Tropical East Africa (Kew Publishing), author of the Flora of Oman (Belgium Botanic Garden Publishing), and is currently author and editor of Flora of Iraq (Kew Publishing).

Dr. Ghazanfar is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and is recipient of the Linnean Medal (Botany) 2021.
