2015 BGCI Congress Scholarships
Docent with schoolgirlBGCI and Missouri Botanical Garden are delighted to be able to offer scholarships to support delegates to participate in the 9th International Congress on Education in Botanic Gardens.

To apply for the scholarships please complete the form and submit it to educationcongress@bgci.org by December 15, 2014. All applicants will be notified in January, 2015.

Delegates who are awarded a scholarship are expected to contribute to a session during the congress. Learn about session formats, congress key words and the call for proposals.

Please note: Scholarships cover specific aspects of the costs associated with attending the Congress. Overall the costs of the Congress include:

  • Flights
  • Visa 
  • Travel to hotel from airport
  • Accommodations for five nights (Sunday, April 26–Thursday, April 30)
  • Congress fees
  • Meals
    • Evening meals on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are not covered in the Congress fees. There are a variety of moderately priced restaurants in St. Louis, close to the Congress hotel and around the Missouri Botanical Garden.
  • Travel Insurance
    • Scholars are recommended to take out travel insurance. 
  • Extras
    • Pre- and post- Congress tours
Criteria for Evaluating Scholarship Applications

Applications will be judged based on the degree to which they meet the following criteria:
  • The strength of the abstract submitted by applicants. Presentations may be in any of the suggested session formats
  • How closely the applicant’s work is related to public engagement and plants (not necessarily having an education exclusively position). 
  • How the delegate will use the knowledge and experience of the Congress in their practice. 
  • How the delegate will disseminate the knowledge gained from the Congress. 
  • Justification of the need for financial support to attend the Congress.
