City Nature Challenge 2026 will be
April 24–27!

City Nature Challenge participation is easy:

  • Take photos of plants, animals, insects, and other life forms. You can do this anywhere across the bi-state* region.
  • Upload your images on the greater St. Louis region's iNaturalist page.
  • Download the FREE iNaturalist app. Find instructions for downloading the app on the iNaturalist website or go directly to the app store.

Join us for a species identification event at Urban Chestnut as part of the annual City Nature Challenge!

  • Bring a laptop and your knowledge of plants, animals, or fungi species to help identify observations made during the City Nature Challenge to research-grade. No experience necessary!
  • RSVP by April 27 so we can get a headcount for food and drink.
