Camp EarthWays: Young Green Builders will be held at the Botanical Garden from July 9 -13, 2018. As in years past, the camp is open to rising 5th through 8th graders from all over the St. Louis Metro area. If you are or know a student who loves architecture, design, transportation, and all things sustainable, then make sure they know about Camp EarthWays. This year, we will learn all about the design process, gain a deeper understanding of how communities and neighborhoods work to meet everyone’s needs, and understand how new techniques in building and design can help ensure a more sustainable future.
Campers will begin the week learning the basics of green building and sustainability, and observe examples of it in action in the Garden. The Garden’s Plant Lab will act as home base for Camp for the rest of the week, as we will take public transportation to other sites around the city to learn first-hand about green building and community development in our community—past trips have included the City Museum, the Urban Harvest - STL Food Roof, and the Missouri History Museum. Campers will then use their new knowledge to create models for clients, including themselves as they culminate the week in designing and modeling their own green dream home.
