Field Trips: Self-guided Tours
On Your Own at the Butterfly House

Are you bringing your class, scout troop/den, or other group to the Butterfly House without booking a class with us? Group rates are available for fifteen or more paid admissions (one chaperone for every five students is required). Learn more and make a reservation

The following activities have been designed to help make your visit to the Butterfly House meaningful and enhance the educational opportunities for your group:

Patch Program
Butterfly House patch programFind out what butterflies eat, or what would eat a tarantula during this hour-long self-guided activity! Each child will receive a booklet to complete while visiting our facility. Upon completion they will each receive a colorful patch as a commemoration of the visit. Each child should bring a pencil as well as crayons, markers or colored pencils. Please note that the booklet does not meet any Scout badge requirements.

The Butterfly House's Patch Program has activities for Junior Entomologists (ages 7 and up) or Beginning Entomologists (ages 6 and under). The Patch Program costs $3.50 per child in addition to the regular admission and includes the booklet and patch.

Prepare for your visit by learning about butterfly metamorphosis and behaviors before you come.

Scout programs are also available for Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. These programs are offered at the Butterfly House, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Shaw Nature Reserve. Learn more
