What are some good hanging basket plants?

Hanging baskets are an easy way to add a dramatic effect to a landscape or garden. Here are a selection of choice plants that work well for hanging baskets that are grow well in the Midwest.

Parsley is an excellent and novel selection especially grown during spring months. One weakness is its inevitable self- destruction in full sun and hot weather. While its peak growth period is not summer, it still is a very desirable basket plant which may be used in a cooler, shady place during the heat.

Acalypha 'Fire Tail' is a smaller version of the well-known chenille plant and should be grown in full sun. This is an eye-catching and unique plant with a promising future ahead of it.

Impatiens consistently performs well in baskets and considered the best cultivar for this purpose. Plants at the Garden will still be in flower at the end of the St. Louis hot weather. Showstopper Pink is a variety that performs exceptionally at the Garden.

Verbena peruviana is a warm, pink vigorous growing plant that would make a wonderful addition to anyone's basket collection. It has very finely divided foliage and requires full sun.
