Pricing for Scout Programs

Day programs at all sites (the Garden, the Shaw Nature Reserve and the Butterfly House):

  • $7 per scout
  • Required chaperones: Free
  • Extra chaperones: pay regular site admission
Number of required chaperones:
Grades PK–3: 1 adult per 5 scouts
Grades 4–12: 1 adult per 8 scouts

Canopy Climb for Scouts

  • $43 per climber, discount available when registering 12 scouts (see details)
  • Required chaperones receive free Garden/Reserve admission
  • One adult chaperone required for every 8 scouts

Scout Overnights at the Missouri Botanical Garden

  • $45 per participant, for both scouts and adult chaperones
  • One adult chaperone required for every 5 scouts

Outreach programs:

  • One-hour program at your preferred site: $100
  • Each additional hour: $40
  • Mileage fees: no charge for less than 20 miles (each way); $1/mile if more than 20 miles (each way)

Seeking funding?  Many grants exist for scout groups, which can help cover or offset program fees. We encourage scout groups to inquire with their local council to identify the best opportunities to pursue.

 

Scheduling Missouri Botanical Garden and Shaw Nature Reserve Programs:

  • You may register online unless otherwise noted in the program description. Registration for fall/winter programs begins Aug. 1. Registration for 2014 spring/summer programs begins Oct. 15.
  • Programs are conducted in the classroom and outside. Participants should dress for the weather.
  • Early school release dates are available upon request.
  • Programs are two hours in length, unless otherwise noted.
  • Group size maximum is 20 scouts per class.
  • Group size minimum is 6 scouts per class.
  • Programs must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
  • Programs at Shaw Nature Reserve are only offered on Saturdays, unless otherwise noted.
  • Shaw Nature Reserve programs: If more than one scout group is scheduled, each group must leave the gatehouse on time; latecomers will not be able to find the group once it has left the gatehouse; we suggest using a cell phone contact on the registration form.

Our Scout Programs Instructor will work with you to schedule and plan your program. If the listed program dates will not work with your troop's schedule; we will make every effort to accommodate you! Children's Garden
Add a visit to the  Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden (open April–October) to your Saturday program! Scout groups must preregister. Preregistered groups will receive a special admission rate of $3 per child for children ages 3 to 12 years. Scout groups are required to have 1 adult chaperone per 5 scouts. Preregister via the online registration form.

 

Scheduling Butterfly House Programs

Butterfly House programs (Bugs for Brownies and Naturalist for Webelos) are individually scheduled by phone. For a Butterfly House program call (636) 530-0076 x 13.

Scholarships Available

The Missouri Botanical Garden’s Education Department offers need-based scholarships so that every student has the opportunity to experience, explore, discover and learn at the Garden, the Shaw Nature Reserve and the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House. Both schools/organizations and individual students may apply.
