Shaw Nature Reserve Announces 2019 Wildflower Concert Series Lineup 

Summer Evening Concerts Held Saturdays in June 

WHAT: Wildflower Concert Series 

WHEN: Saturdays, June 1 to June 29 at 5 p.m. 

WHERE: The historic Bascom House at Shaw Nature Reserve 

COST: Included with regular admission fees, free for members and children 12 years old and younger. 

INFOWildflower Concert Series 

(GRAY SUMMIT): One of the region’s most beautiful natural spaces will transform into a concert venue Saturdays in June. Shaw Nature Reserve’sWildflower Concert Series features a lineup of regional bands amid a backdrop of beautiful native plants and wildflowers. Visitors are encouraged to picnic on the lawn of the Reserve’s historic Bascom House while they enjoy the show. Food and alcohol will also be available for purchase from local vendors*. The event will open at 5 p.m. with musical performances between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. 

*Please note, no outside alcohol is allowed at Shaw Nature Reserve. 

LINE UP: 

June 1, 2019 – PayDirt. The acoustic duo of Steve Burgess and Matt Lindstrom feature a mix of cover songs and original music.   

June 8, 2019 – Tommy Halloran’s Guerilla Swing. Tommy Halloran plays a mix of jazz, blues, bossa nova, folk and rock ‘n’ roll. The band was voted “Best Jazz Band” in the Riverfront Times Music Awards in 2014, 2015 and 2016. 

June 15, 2019 – River Kittens. The River Kittens are veterans of the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Whitaker Music Festival, LouFest, and have also opened for Pokey LaFarge at The Pageant. In 2019 the group has revamped, evolved, and will be releasing a new EP. 

June 22, 2019 – Downstream. A perennial favorite at Shaw Nature Reserve, Downstream returns to the Wildflower Concert Series in 2019. The folk music trio has also performed at the Shaw Wildflower Market, Prairie Day, and Meet Me Outdoors.  

June 29, 2019 – The Gaslight Squares The Gaslight Squares are a traditional jazz band based in St. Louis. They play a variety of jazz and blues with an ensemble stretching from a trio to a seven-piece band.

The Shaw Nature Reserve’s mission is “to inspire responsible stewardship of our environment through education, restoration and protection of our natural habitats and through public enjoyment of the natural world.” 

Shaw Nature Reserve of the Missouri Botanical Garden is a 2,400-acre natural area located just south of Interstate-44 at exit #253 in Gray Summit. Open 7 a.m. until sunset daily; Visitor Center open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends. The Bascom House is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The Reserve is open to hikers everyday, but the Visitor Center and Bascom House are closed on some major holidays.
