Chinese Culture Days

Chinese OperaThe Missouri Botanical Garden is celebrating Chinese culture all summer long in 2012 with "Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic by Night." Join the Lantern Festival Grand Opening Weekend celebration during Memorial Day weekend, May 26—28, 2012. —Learn more.

Chinese Culture Days will return to its original format in 2013. A 70-foot dragon and lion dancers open this springtime celebration that includes a Grand Parade and acrobatics, theater, martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, painting, authentic regional cuisine, t'ai chi and tea tastings. Special tours in the Grigg Nanjing Friendship Garden focus on the symbolism of many plant species and architectural details. No trams. — Learn more.

Taiko Celebration features taiko drummers, sumo wrestlers, traditional tea ceremonies, candlelight walks through the 14-acre Japanese "garden of pure, clear harmony and peace," kimono fashions, bon odori dancing, ikebana and bonsai demonstrations, outdoor marketplace and food court. Whitaker Music Festival

Whitaker Music FestivalA nine-week Wednesday evening outdoor concert series held each summer. The concert series is the only time of year when picnicking is allowed at the Garden; pack a picnic or purchase sandwiches and beverages on site. Lawn seating at the Cohen Amphitheater; bring chairs or a blanket. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.; last entry at 9 p.m. Sponsored by the Whitaker Foundation. — Learn more.
