ST. LOUIS):  Leave winter behind and spring into another season of activities at the Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden. Families can explore the great outdoors and experience all the Children’s Garden has to offer: a waterfall, steamboat, cave, rope bridges, tree house and more! Opening weekend activities at the Children’s Garden are available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 29 and 30 and are presented by Macy’s Foundation.

Spin a wheel as you enter the Children’s Garden for a chance to win a prize. Make a packet of native seeds and grow native Missouri plants at home. Learn more about the plants we eat in the Edible Garden and pot a plant to grow your own leafy green vegetables at home.

Children will have the chance to create a fairy house or gnome cottage for their own gardens and assist in creating a miniature world for the Garden’s Nature Explore Classroom. They’ll also create frames using natural and recycled materials for a place to display their favorite picture from their outdoor adventures in 2014. Staff and volunteers will help children create their own nature journals to track, draw and log all their visits to the Children’s Garden.

Special guests include live birds from the World Bird Sanctuary, who will visit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Finn, the Children’s Garden friendly frog mascot who will roam the Garden and greet visitors at 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Spring-inspired face painting will also be available both days.

Admission to the Missouri Botanical Garden is $8; St. Louis City and County residents enjoy discounted admission of $4 and free admission on most Wednesday and Saturday mornings until noon. Children ages 12 and younger and Garden members are free.
