CELEBRATE SUMMER AT THE SOPHIA M. SACHS BUTTERFLY HOUSE

(CHESTERFIELD):  From butterflies to bugs to fireflies, visit the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House this summer for fun for the whole family. Now through Labor Day the Butterfly House is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional evening programming throughout the summer. As a special treat for summer, the Butterfly House and St. Louis Carousel have partnered to offer the joint Faust Park Fun Pass now through September 1. Visitors can purchase a $10 pass which will include Butterfly House admission and unlimited rides on the St. Louis Carousel. The pass is valid only on the day of purchase and available for purchase at both locations. Passes can be redeemed Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are not valid on Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays.

Firefly Festival: June 11, 18 and 25 from 8-9:30 p.m. Our popular celebration of Earth's living lanterns returns! Join us for firefly crafts, a firefly-themed snack, and games. Walk the conservatory at night and see the Butterfly House full of twinkling lights. At the end of the night staff members will lead guests on an outdoor walk to search for fireflies. Please bring one flashlight per person. $12 for the general public and $10 for Missouri Botanical Garden members. Reservations required. Designed for families with children 12 and younger. Bug Hunt: July 19-20 from 6:30-9 p.m. Head outside with our entomology staff and explore insects in the own habitats. Activities include games, crafts and field sessions. The Very Hungry Caterpillar will also visit the Butterfly House during Bug Hunt. Adults will learn more about attracting butterflies to gardens and building native bee houses. $12 for the general public and $10 for Missouri Botanical Garden members. Reservations required. Also at the Butterfly House this summer, German Gnomes on loan from the Schwarz family hidden in the Conservatory. Pick up a scavenger hunt guide and see how many you can spot. Included with regular admission.

The Butterfly House is located in Faust Park at 15193 Olive Blvd. in Chesterfield, Mo., accessible from Interstate 64 at exit #19B. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last ticket is sold 30 min. prior to closing each day. Visitors are encouraged to arrive no later than one hour prior to closing to fully enjoy the experience.

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors (ages 65 and older) and $4 for children (ages 3 to 12). Children ages 2 and younger and Missouri Botanical Garden members are free. The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House of the Missouri Botanical Garden is located in St. Louis County’s Faust Park at 15193 Olive Blvd. in Chesterfield, Mo. The central feature of the attraction is an 8,000-square-foot glass conservatory where visitors mingle with more than 60 species of the world’s most beautiful butterflies in free flight.
