CCSD’s program with the Shuar indigenous group developed a zoning and
management plan for the Cutucú-Shaimi Protected Forest (part of the Cordillera del
Cóndor) in partnership with the Shuar organization Fundación Tsantsa and with the Real
Jardín Botánico de Madrid, an undertaking that would not have been possible without
the trust and participation of the Shuar communities. CCSD’s capacity building programs
in community-based natural resource management and land-use planning, conducted in
the region during the first and subsequent years of the program, laid the foundation for
this accomplishment.
