The Garden offers unpaid internships designed for you to obtain academic credit or credentials to fulfill requirements of an apprenticeship or to experience professional development, perhaps in an area new to your career.  Unpaid interns receive free admission to the Garden, as well as discounts at our retail shops and Sassafras Cafe during the internship period.

Horticulture GIS Intern

Due to COVID-19 and staffing priorities, this position is not currently available for the year 2020 and leading into the early part of year 2021.

This hands-on internship will provide the GIS Intern with practical experience in using GIS on an everyday basis with a premier scientific and cultural institution. Missouri Botanical Garden (MBG) has been using GIS to manage assets for nearly two decades. Our GIS system includes feature datasets that represent the basemap, plants, utilities, donor items, irrigation, and more. Work assignments for the intern may include GPS field data collection, data editing and enhancement, updating CAD as-builts with GIS data, creating web mapping applications and/or Story Maps in ArcGIS Online, as well as utilizing other software and extensions as appropriate. MBG licenses various ESRI products including ArcGIS Enterprise, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, 3D Analyst, and ArcScan. Projects may include but are not limited to asset inventorying, data analyses, data management, and Story Map creation.

Recent grads or students that are near completion of their B.A. or B.S. Experience or coursework in using ArcGIS 10.1+ required. Knowledge/ability to use ArcGIS Online a plus. Must have your own transportation.

Internship dates: (3 months)
Summer: mid-May – mid-August (exact dates flexible)

Will also consider dates outside of this range on a case-by-case basis.

Part-time, 10-20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible within operating hours of 7:30-4:30 Monday-Friday. 

Unpaid. Includes free admission to the Garden, its festivals and events, and its off-site family of attractions.
