Native Plant Bake Off at the Shaw Nature Reserve

posted on
Native Plant Bake Off at the Shaw Nature Reserve
Bake sales and bake offs are a staple of many markets, fairs, and other events. The Shaw Nature Reserve is putting a spin on this tradition on September 6th from 4 to 7:30 p.m. with the Shaw Wildflower Market and the Native Plant Bake Off!

The bake off will present a challenge to the cooks who enter, because all items entered in the bake off must contain at least one Missouri native species (such as gooseberry, pictured here) as an ingredient! Contestants may bring in any recipe for bread, scones, pudding, cobbler, jam, jelly, wine, etc., as long as it is made with a native plant.

Entries should be divided into small sample sizes to give away to attendees of the Shaw Wildflower Market. The winner will be decided by the creation that generates the most votes, and the winning cook will receive a fabulous prize and their interview and recipe published in the October issue of News from Native Plant School.

Think you have the perfect recipe to be judged by your peers? Join us for the bake off!
