'JFS-KW78' is a columnar maple selection that features branches that grow at a steep, upward angle and good fall color. It originated from a seed collected off of an open pollinated specimen of A. rubrum 'Armstrong' Mature plants will reach up to 40' tall and spread to fill a 12' area. The leaves turn shades of golden yellow to orange in the fall. The early spring blooms are not considered ornamentally significant. Commonly sold at nurseries and garden centers under the name ARMSTRONG GOLD. This plant is protected by patent number PP25301. Often sold under the species name A. rubrum (red maple).
